i bid farewell.

{via here

I will miss how the summer sun will spilled her golden goodness through the pine boughs.
I will miss the laughter-filled midnights, the movie nights, the nights in which were stargazing nights.
I will miss the excitement of how "forever" turned into only a day away.
I will miss vacation countdowns and mornings wrapped in quilts and midnight chats with friends near and faraway.
I will miss the thrilling shivers of diving into the cool depths below sapphire waters.
I will miss lavender hugs and pastel rose kisses.
I will miss messy buns and loose nautical braids.
and I will miss dear summer, and can only dream of the next one to come.

but dear autumn, I cannot wait for you to call at my garden gate....

postscript :: I will be taking a little break {I have been actually, taking a little break from blogging, but this is an "official" announcement.} I just want to take a step back, breath, and figure out where I want to go with my blogging journey - sort out my dreams and priorities because, in all honesty,  I don't think 'tis quite fair to just write if my heart is not in it {neither for you or for me}. thank you for your patience, love, and do not hesitate to leave a note! xx's.

book tour // tea n' scones with Miss Elizabeth Rose

to-day, dear readers, I have a very special guest to be welcomed in my garden walk. I have been honored the very dear pleasure of having Miss Elizabeth Rose of Living on Literary Lane for tea and scones to introduce to you her newest published book: Violets are Blue

"Hello, Miss Elizabeth! 'Tis a pleasure to have you again in my garden walk. First, I must again congratulate you on your publishing of your first novel Violets Are Blue. Perhaps, might you give a short summary of the book, and what inspired you to develop the characters?"

Violet Bradshaw has an idyllic life. With her best friend since infancy, Lillian Prescott, living just a few blocks away, and the beautiful shoreline right at her fingertips, Vi can't imagine calling any place other than Eastbourne home. And then her parents make the decision to move their large family to bustling and dirty New York City, leaving Vi's perfect world shattered on the ground. Determined not to lose touch, Violet and Lilli send letters back and forth across the Atlantic, keeping up their friendship though an icy sea now divides them. When Lilli sends Vi an especially excited note saying that the whole Prescott family will be coming to America — and on the unsinkable Titanic, no less — it's all Vi can do to contain her excitement. Can April not come sooner?

I wanted to write about a family that was not broken, unrealistic though that may sound. Too many stories nowadays begin with the premise of failing relationships, and then end — surprise, surprise! — with everyone working through their differences, loving each other, and essentially using up the whole novel only to get to where they should have been on page one. I hoped to portray a family that faced the storms of life together. The  Bradshaws are very much like my own parents and siblings, and whenever I felt lacking in inspiration, I had only to observe those around me. Other sources that inspired me are classic family stories, such as Little Women, Anne of Ingleside, and Marianne and Elinor's relationship in Sense and Sensibility.

"What sparked your interest in the Titanic era?"

The Dear America book, Voyage on the Great Titanic, by Ellen Emerson White, has been a favorite of mine since childhood, and was what first introduced me to the tragedy of the Titanic. I was quite intrigued with the infamous ocean liner's end, mainly because it came as such a shock to those of that period. A ship so grand, so luxurious — why, nothing could possibly sink her, right?

I hardly need answer that question.

"If you could spend a whole day with one of the characters in your book, who would it be?"

Spending a day with Violet would be nearly the same as spending the day with Emma, or Helen, or Anna, as they are in each other's company for the majority of the day. Should I choose to tag along with Robert, we would probably end up at the wharf eventually — the pull it has on that lad is practically magnetic. I think I should like to pass my hours at the forge with Mr. O' Neele and his daughter, Mary. Just think what interesting tidbits of news I'd pick up.

"At what age did you become fully interested in writing a book?"

I started my first book, a story about a young girl named Rose Marion who lives in the fictional town of Window Bay, MA, around age eleven or twelve. Naturally, it is hardly worth reading now, but it still holds a special place in my heart, as only one document can ever bear the title of First Book. Before pursuing novel-writing, I wrote poetry, plays, and journaled regularly.

"Did you ever suffer from writer's block when you wrote Violets Are Blue? What inspired you to keep writing?"

Ah, the horrid disease! Yes, it did strike, though I would not allow it full control. There were a few moments — mainly during NaNoWriMo 2010 — where I felt ready to quit, but the promise of finishing a real book and holding the published edition in my hands was enough to encourage me to push forward.

"Who are some of the authors that inspired you to write this book?"

I am and continue to be inspired by many authors, and cannot name one who single-handedly influenced Violets Are Blue. I am penslain almost daily by the various works of C.S. Lewis, Jane Austen, Louisa May Alcott, J.R.R. Tolkien, L.M. Montgomery, and most recently, Victor Hugo (naturally, that is but a small portion of the list).

"Can you give any advice for those aspiring to be future published writers?"

The best advice I can offer from my own meager experience is read good books. Spend time in the words of the greats, and learn what it is that made them excellent word crafters. Next, perservere. There will be many a time when writer's block will grasp you with it's fearsome claw — do not give it the pleasure of triumph. Even when your story seems to be going nowhere, or if you feel discouraged by the works of the greats, keep writing. There is no better way to learn how to write a book. As Benjamin Franklin said, experience is the best teacher.

Thank you, Miss Elizabeth, for kindly including me on your book tour. I wish you grand success on your newest published book and on future writing projects.

golden moments {a fair photoshoot}

{aka it was the greatest adventure of her life [thus far] // part iii}
Photobucket
{ DAY 4 } wednesday morning, the house was quiet again. johanna's older siblings had not come downstairs yet, and the younger siblings were away at horse camp. thus we passed the morning, with tea and crafts in a way as all quiet mornings should be spent.
around 2ish all of us hopped into the van, and made our way to the Orange County Fair...
Photobucket
Photobucket
we sipped on freshly squeezed lemonade and were thrilled to find a long row of old-fashioned photobooths. {I don't know why, but after having a SMASH book, I have been kind of obsessed with photobooths}. even though it was $5.00 for one strip, it was well worth cramming into the small both and posing...

the fair had a lovely education garden overflowing with rows and rows of vegetables and pretty flowers. the lighting was *SO* perfect, and so Johanna and I {with her sister in tow} decided to seize this opportunity to have a photoshoot...

^^ special thanks to Miss Savanna {or as we like to call her Savy} for taking most of these photographs.

as the shutter went *click, click* I smiled, not just because I was posing, but because each still - each photograph would be a tangible memory of this golden moment. being with people you love, laughing in the golden sunlight, and just being comfortable enough to let down your hair, is truly one of the best feelings.

the one and only ride we went on, was the chair lift, that gave us a hawk-eye, sunset view of the fair. it was lovely to be sitting between two of the sweetest girls as we "rode into the sunset." we all lingered a few hours more, browsing through the rows and rows of booths, stopping by purchase a warm gooey cinnamon roll. we returned "home" around 11:00, exhausted by the afternoon's festivities; however, I was excited to see what the next day had in store...

it was the greatest adventure of her life {thus far|} // part ii

>> DAY 3  {tuesday}the house was quiet in the morning of day three, and so Miss Johanna and I went downstairs and prepared a simple breakfast. whilst we sipped on smoothies and nibbled on eggs an buttery english muffins, we chatted lightly and still tried to make ourselves believe we were together again. *smile* when her older brothers came downstairs, we all crammed into his little gold car, and laughed hysterically as we listened to this song {to this day that gets stuck in my head}.

Photobucket
...as soon as we hopped out of the car, Johanna and I rushed over the Irvine Spectrum's {this is coming from a small-town girl, GINORMOUS} movie theater, in hopes to catch the 12:15 showing of The Amazing Spiderman {you can read Johanna's thoughts on the movie here}. if there is one thing you did not know about us, we are both H.U.G.E. Marvel fans.
Photobucket
after the movie, we were ecstatic to have discovered a photobooth in the theater's lobby for our SMASH journals. as soon as the movie was over and we stepped out into the hot sun, our fun day of shopping had begun. best friends are not truly best friends unless they go shopping together, right? *smile*
Photobucket
the first place we went into was a jewelry store going out of business {meaning SALE!}, and we quickly stumbled upon two sweet cameo necklaces that we purchased for one another. we snacked on cinnamon pretzel bits as we tried on funny sunglasses {Johanna was determined to find a certain pair of glasses to match someone very "amazing" *giggle*} and ended up purchasing aviator shades {at charlotte russe} so we could be matching.

our next stop was the Spectrum's ferris wheel. weeks before my trip, she had said that we were to ride either the carousel or ferris wheel and so we simply had to make time for it.
Photobucket
ferris wheel {vertical}
up, up, and away we went. the view was unforgettable, not because it was gorgeous, but because I was sitting right next to my dearest friend watching, the world go by...together.
Photobucket
isn't she purty?

...and then there's me who is apparently not "awkward just weird." *crickets in the background* either way, I do not take either as a compliment. *giggle*

we finished the day with a chai and frappicino from Starbucks and sat in front of Chipotle waiting for her brothers to pick us up again. the evening ended with a showing of Marvel's Thor, and I went to sleep thinking of our wonderful day at the Irvine Spectrum and what was to come the day after...

it was the greatest adventure of her life {thus far} // part i

{via pinterest}
the elderly clock struck eight in the living room, but the little soul snuggled beneath the quilted covers had been awakened far before the sun had kissed the eastern horizon. excitement surged every part of her being as she glanced at the calendar, ignoring the long days of waiting for this moment, now crossed out with x's - but instead, her eyes were glued to sunday the 22nd of July circled with stars. and at that moment, she knew the adventure which had taken months to plan was to begin...

{ready for the detailed account?}

| DAY ONE >>  what had started as a dream, turned into a spoken thought, which then transformed into a reality. on Sunday morning on 22nd of July, I excitedly jumped out of bed and quickly logged onto Skype in hopes to greet my dear friend before the frenzy of preparations was to begin. the hundreds of miles that separated us, were ignored as we both were eager for them to melt away...
11:00 both of us [one from the north, and one from the south] made our way with our families to sunny Santa Barbara. I had to keep pinching myself in order to make sure I was not in a dream. Daddy parked the car, and took my arm {I like Daddy's strong arm linked with mine}, and we dodged the tide of Sunday tourists walking up and down the brick street. Chipotle's was bustling with customers, and my heart pounded with anticipation {it seems like I like to meet this girl in busy places, eh?}.

"we're parking right now," she texted.
"okay."
"we're almost there."
"can't wait."

I squirmed in my seat, still trying to make myself believe that one of my dearest friends was just around the corner {she likes coming around corners too, doesn't she?}.
 and there.  she.  was.  my dear old fashioned girl.
her beaming smile and her whole familia right behind her. after seven months, it felt as though sisters had been re-united again. embraces and were exchanged. squeals, laughter and smiles? oh, there was a lot of that too. we quickly ate lunch, discussing in detail what fun things she had planned for the week {a whole week in orange county with my darling friend seemed unbelievable!}. all too soon, Daddy bid farewell and I was settled into a big foreign, but-not-so-foreign van...and the second part of the car ride to L.A. began. the traffic on the three hour trip back to Johanna's house increased the number of hours, but both of us passed the time by talking about everything that dear friend's usually talk about. we listened to Owl City and Michael Buble as the VERY familiar scenery trudged by {two hours of traffic isn't all that fun, even if best friends are right beside you ;)}. we arrived at her house, around 7ish and snacked on watermelon {and kettle corn ;)} as we watched Captain America and I got Johanna hooked on USA's Psych {yes, I know, I'm a terrible influence on her}.
>>---DAY TWO---> {mondayI admit, it was rather odd to wake up to unfamiliar voices talking out the window, and feeling as though I were floating above the ground {I chased Johanna's younger sister out of her own top bunk [for the last time, I know! I'm a horrible house guest!]}, taking a few moments to sort my bearings. the day started with homemade cinnamon French toast, and plans to go ice skating were settled. around 2ish, we packed up the car, and stopped for frozen yogurt {of course it had to be Golden Spoon}...

{click here, if you want to see the unprofessional me ice skating}. the hour of ice skating passed all too quickly, and soon we were back in the car planning what fun things were to be done the next day...
